What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in enhancing the outcomes of bony supported distal jet treatment for adolescents with Angle Class II malocclusion. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a laser treatment group or a control group receiving the same orthodontic device without laser therapy. The study will assess the amount of upper molar distalization achieved in both groups using dental casts and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) before and after treatment. The primary goal is to determine if LLLT significantly improves the treatment results compared to the control group.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents with bilateral Angle's Class II malocclusion and a minimum of 1/4 cusp discrepancy.

Not a fit: Patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion, vertical growth patterns, or those with shallow or anterior open bites may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more effective orthodontic treatments for adolescents with Class II malocclusion.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of low-level laser therapy in orthodontics is gaining interest, this specific application for Class II malocclusion treatment is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
