Using light to detect oral diseases
Optical Sensor for Photodynamic Detection of Oral Pathology
This study is testing a new way to use light to spot oral diseases like cancer and gum disease, to see if it works better than the usual methods.

What this trial studies
This study aims to improve the detection and diagnosis of oral diseases by utilizing advanced optical imaging techniques. Researchers will image various areas of the mouth, including healthy and diseased tissues, and compare these findings with traditional diagnostic methods. The goal is to identify specific biomarkers related to oral health and disease, particularly focusing on conditions like oral cancer and gum disease. By analyzing saliva samples alongside imaging data, the study seeks to develop a non-invasive, patient-specific approach for diagnosing oral pathology.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with various oral conditions, such as dry mouth or gum disease.
Not a fit: Patients with advanced gum disease, untreated cavities, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier and more accurate detection of oral diseases, improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing optical imaging techniques for disease detection have shown promise, indicating potential success for this approach.
