What this trial studies
This observational study investigates the effects of lidocaine spray on patient comfort during bladder catheterization, a procedure often associated with pain and discomfort. Patients are divided into two groups: one receiving lidocaine and the other receiving a placebo. Pain levels are assessed at various intervals using the FLACC and Wong-Baker pain scales to determine the effectiveness of lidocaine in reducing discomfort. The study aims to enhance patient compliance and facilitate smoother medical procedures.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are male patients over 18 years old who are oriented, cooperative, and have spontaneous urine output.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit include those under 18 years old, female patients, or those with trauma or anatomical variations affecting catheterization.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce pain and discomfort for patients undergoing bladder catheterization.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with lidocaine use for pain management in similar procedures, indicating potential for success.
Eligibility criteria
