Using L-PRF and light therapy to treat aggressive gum disease
The Effect of Leukocyte and Platelet-rich Fibrin With Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy in Treatment of Aggressive Periodontitis Patients: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial
NA · Kafrelsheikh University · NCT05043935
This study is testing if combining a special treatment for gum disease with light therapy can help people with aggressive gum disease heal better than just using the light therapy alone.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effects of combining leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) with antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in patients with aggressive periodontitis. aPDT utilizes photosensitizing agents to generate free radicals that target harmful bacteria, while L-PRF aids in healing and regeneration by releasing growth factors. The study aims to determine whether the addition of L-PRF enhances the effectiveness of aPDT compared to aPDT alone. Participants will be monitored for improvements in periodontal health following treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are systemically healthy, non-smokers who have not received periodontal treatment or certain medications in the past six months.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases affecting periodontal prognosis, smokers, or those currently on specific medications may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved treatment outcomes for patients with aggressive periodontitis.
How similar studies have performed: While the combination of L-PRF and aPDT is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in using these therapies individually for periodontal conditions.
