What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of hypnosis as an adjunct to standard care for managing pain during joint lavage procedures in patients with knee osteoarthritis. It is a monocentric, prospective, controlled, randomized, single-blind study involving 100 participants, who will be divided into two groups: one receiving standard care and the other receiving standard care plus hypnosis. The primary outcome will be the difference in pain scores measured by the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) between the two groups. The study will last for two years, with patient enrollment expected to take 18 months.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis who have been recommended for a joint lavage procedure.

Not a fit: Patients who have had both knees washed on the same day or those with psychotic disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce pain and anxiety during joint lavage procedures, improving patient comfort and outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results for hypnosis in pain management, suggesting potential success for this approach.
