Using hypnosis to improve image quality during cardiac MRI

Evaluating the Contribution of Hypnosis on Image Quality During Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in Anxious Patients

Not applicable Interventional University Hospital, Bordeaux · NCT05999578

What this trial studies

Researchers at Bordeaux University Hospital will offer a hypnosis session during cardiac MRI to adult patients and measure its effect on image quality and scan interruptions. Anxiety will be measured using standardized trait and state scores, and image quality metrics and acquisition interruptions will be recorded. The project excludes patients with arrhythmias and those with contraindications to MRI or gadolinium, and requires French-speaking adults who can give informed consent. Data will be collected during routine diagnostic or follow-up cardiac MRIs performed at CHU Bordeaux.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) scheduled for cardiac MRI who can consent, speak French, have health insurance coverage, and especially those with elevated trait or state anxiety scores (≥46) are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with cardiac arrhythmias, MRI or gadolinium contraindications, hearing impairment, non-French speakers, pregnant or lactating women, or those unable to consent may not receive benefit from this approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, hypnosis could reduce scan interruptions and improve cardiac MRI image quality, helping speed diagnosis and management.

How similar studies have performed: Prior MRI research suggests hypnosis can reduce anxiety and decrease interruptions in some imaging settings, but its specific effect on cardiac MRI image quality is largely untested.
