What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of hypnosis on patient comfort and anxiety during lumbar infusion tests, which are critical for diagnosing chronic adult hydrocephalus. The procedure involves measuring intracranial pressure and can be uncomfortable for patients, particularly those over 65 years old. By employing hypnosis as a non-medicinal technique, the study aims to enhance patient tolerance and reduce movement artifacts that can prolong the test duration. The goal is to improve the overall experience and outcomes for patients undergoing this invasive procedure.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients over 65 years old who are undergoing assessment for suspected chronic adult hydrocephalus and have no major cognitive impairment.

Not a fit: Patients under 65 years old, those with major cognitive impairment, or individuals with a history of lumbar surgery may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance patient comfort and reduce anxiety during lumbar infusion tests.

How similar studies have performed: While hypnosis has been explored in various medical contexts, this specific application in lumbar infusion tests for hydrocephalus is relatively novel.
