What this trial studies

This observational study aims to enhance the diagnostic accuracy for patients presenting with optic disc edema by utilizing advanced high-resolution MRI techniques. The study focuses on identifying the underlying causes of optic disc swelling, which can be indicative of various ophthalmologic and neurological conditions. By employing MRI as a first-line diagnostic tool, the study seeks to provide rapid and precise etiological diagnoses, particularly in cases of inflammatory or compressive pathologies. Participants will undergo MRI scans to assess the effectiveness of these new imaging sequences in diagnosing conditions such as intracranial hypertension and ischemic optic neuropathy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who exhibit clinically detected papillary edema at the back of the eye.

Not a fit: Patients who have contraindications for MRI, such as those with electrical devices or claustrophobia, will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate and timely diagnoses for patients with optic disc edema, improving treatment outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing advanced MRI techniques for diagnosing optic nerve conditions have shown promising results, indicating potential success for this approach.
