What this trial studies

This study focuses on implementing group Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) within cardiac rehabilitation services to address common issues of anxiety and depression among heart disease patients. The approach builds on previous findings that MCT can improve mental health outcomes when integrated into cardiac rehabilitation. The study will establish beacon sites for delivering MCT and will pilot-test enhancements to the national audit of cardiac rehabilitation data to include MCT-related metrics. This will allow for a thorough evaluation of the implementation process and its effectiveness.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients attending cardiac rehabilitation who meet the NICE recommendations for acute coronary syndrome and heart failure.

Not a fit: Patients who are not undergoing cardiac rehabilitation or do not meet the specified clinical criteria may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the mental health and overall quality of life for patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that integrating psychological therapies like MCT into cardiac rehabilitation can lead to improved outcomes, suggesting a promising avenue for this approach.
