Using escape-room games to teach nursing students about heart rhythm problems
Efficacy of Gamification With Escape-Room for Arrhythmia Identification in Critical Patients: an Experiment With Nursing Undergraduates
This study tests if using escape-room games, either in-person or online, can help nursing students learn to recognize heart rhythm problems better than traditional classroom teaching.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of gamification through both in-person and virtual escape-room experiences to enhance nursing students' ability to identify cardiac arrhythmias in critical care patients. Participants will first attend a theoretical class on cardiac arrhythmias and then be randomized to either an in-person or virtual escape-room scenario. The study aims to compare the cognitive and affective competencies gained from each method. Conducted in Brasília, Brazil, it focuses on undergraduate nursing students who have completed relevant coursework.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are undergraduate nursing students who have completed courses related to adult and elderly health.
Not a fit: Healthcare professionals and students who have not completed the relevant coursework will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve nursing education and patient care by enhancing the ability of future nurses to recognize and respond to cardiac arrhythmias.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of gamification in education is gaining traction, this specific approach combining escape-room methodology with nursing education is relatively novel and has not been widely tested.
