Using Eplerenone to Prevent Atrial Fibrillation Recurrence in Heart Disease Patients

Potential Role of Eplerenone in Reducing Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation in Patients With Structural Heart Disease

Phase 1 Interventional Assiut University · NCT06556732

What this trial studies

This prospective comparative study investigates the effectiveness of eplerenone in reducing the recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with structural heart disease. Conducted at the Cardiology Department of Aswan University Hospital, the study involves 100 patients with confirmed AF who are divided into two groups: one receiving eplerenone alongside amiodarone and the other receiving only amiodarone. The primary goal is to assess the recurrence of AF in both groups over the study period.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation who have undergone cardioversion to sinus rhythm.

Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as rheumatic heart disease, thyroid dysfunction, or significant renal impairment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a new treatment option to reduce AF recurrence in patients with structural heart disease.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of eplerenone in this context is relatively novel, similar studies have shown promise in managing atrial fibrillation with other interventions.
