Using CT scans to improve heart artery procedures
Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography (CTCA) Prior to Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) - a Feasibility Study
This study is trying to see if using special CT scans before heart artery procedures can help people with blocked arteries have better outcomes and feel less chest pain.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the feasibility of using Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography (CTCA) prior to performing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) on patients with Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) of coronary arteries. It aims to determine if CTCA can enhance the success rate of PCI by providing detailed information about the occluded artery's characteristics. A total of 20 patients will be randomly assigned to either receive CTCA before their PCI or proceed directly to PCI without CTCA. The primary endpoint is the success rate of PCI in both groups, while secondary endpoints include improvements in angina symptoms and the need for additional procedures.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with a CTO and a J-CTO score of 2 or higher who are indicated for PCI.
Not a fit: Patients under 18, those with a J-CTO score below 2, or individuals with inadequate CTCA images will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to higher success rates in treating chronic total occlusions, reducing the need for repeat procedures and improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of CTCA in coronary interventions is established, this specific approach to CTO PCI is novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
