Using coronary CTA to improve heart disease prevention in asymptomatic Chinese adults
Role of the Screening with Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography on Lipid Management and Risk Factors Control in an Asymptomatic Chinese Population: a Community-based, Prospective Randomised Trial
This study is testing if using a special heart scan can help prevent heart disease better than regular risk assessments in healthy adults aged 40 to 69 in Nanjing.

What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate whether a coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA)-based strategy for preventing coronary heart disease (CHD) is more effective than traditional risk score methods in managing lipid levels and cardiovascular risk factors. It will involve 3,400 asymptomatic participants aged 40 to 69 from Nanjing, who will be randomly assigned to receive either CCTA-guided or traditional risk score-guided prevention programs. The effectiveness of these strategies will be assessed after 12 months, focusing on lipid-lowering treatment and control of cardiovascular risk factors. Additionally, the study will provide insights into the prevalence of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are asymptomatic Chinese adults aged 40 to 69 who reside in Nanjing and have no known cardiovascular disease.
Not a fit: Patients with serious liver dysfunction, chronic kidney disease, or those who have previously used lipid-lowering medications may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more effective management of cardiovascular risk factors and improved lipid control in asymptomatic individuals.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in using imaging techniques like CCTA for cardiovascular risk assessment, suggesting potential success for this approach.
