What this trial studies

This study investigates the effect of Coenzyme Q10 supplementation on reducing the incidence of contrast-induced acute kidney injury in patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing coronary angiography. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either CoQ10 along with standard preventive measures or standard preventive measures alone. The goal is to determine if CoQ10 can effectively protect kidney function during this procedure.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with ST-elevation myocardial infarction, non ST-elevation myocardial infarction, or unstable angina.

Not a fit: Patients with renal transplants, those experiencing preoperative or intraoperative bleeding, or those on nephrotoxic medications may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could significantly reduce the risk of kidney injury in heart patients undergoing angiography.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored the protective effects of Coenzyme Q10, but this specific application in acute coronary syndrome patients undergoing angiography is relatively novel.
