Using carbapenem antibiotics for infections caused by VIM-producing bacteria
Carbapenem Antibiotic Therapy for VIM Carbapenemase-Producing Enterobacteriaceae Infections - A Retrospective Cohort Study
This study looks at how well carbapenem antibiotics work for treating tough infections caused by certain bacteria in adults who have been in the hospital for a long time.

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on the treatment of infections caused by VIM-producing carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) at the Strasbourg University Hospital. It aims to document the local experience and effectiveness of carbapenem antibiotics in managing these challenging infections, which are particularly prevalent in patients with prolonged hospital stays and extensive antibiotic exposure. The study will analyze data from adult patients treated for these infections between 2011 and 2022, providing insights into the sensitivity of these rare bacterial strains to carbapenems.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who were treated for VIM-producing Enterobacteriaceae infections at the Strasbourg University Hospital during the specified time frame.
Not a fit: Patients who have opted out of allowing their data to be used for research purposes will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve treatment strategies for patients with difficult-to-treat bacterial infections.
How similar studies have performed: While the study focuses on a specific local experience, similar approaches in other regions have shown varying degrees of success in managing antibiotic-resistant infections.
