What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the use of buccal mucosa grafts for onlay ureteroplasty in patients with proximal ureteral strictures or uretropelvic junction obstructions that cannot be treated with primary anastomosis. The study aims to provide a safer and more effective surgical option compared to traditional methods, which may involve complex procedures with significant complications. By utilizing buccal mucosa, the trial seeks to improve surgical outcomes and reduce the risks associated with other surgical interventions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with proximal ureteral stricture or uretropelvic junction obstruction not suitable for primary anastomosis.
Not a fit: Patients with active oral infections or oral cancers affecting the lips, tongue, or cheeks will not benefit from this study due to contraindications for buccal grafts.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could offer a safer and more effective treatment option for patients suffering from proximal ureteral strictures.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have reported the feasibility and safety of buccal mucosa graft ureteroplasty, indicating a promising approach in this area.
