What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to determine if bioimpedance-guided fluid management can reduce complications associated with hemodialysis, particularly major cardiovascular events and other symptoms like hypotension and fatigue. Participants will be divided into two groups: one receiving bioimpedance analysis to adjust their dry weight and another following standard physician recommendations without bioimpedance data. The study will monitor outcomes such as cardiovascular events, vascular access issues, and overall patient symptoms during hemodialysis. The goal is to improve patient care and outcomes in those undergoing maintenance hemodialysis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients who have been on hemodialysis for at least three months and have intact upper and lower extremities for measurement.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have a cardiac pacemaker, or possess metallic implants that interfere with measurements may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce complications and improve the quality of life for patients on hemodialysis.

How similar studies have performed: While bioimpedance analysis is a novel approach in this specific context, similar studies have shown promise in managing fluid status in other patient populations.
