What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of an augmented reality virtual ruler to enhance the safety and efficiency of placing peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). Patients who consent will have their PICC placed by a physician equipped with mixed reality smart glasses that feature an application for measuring distances. This innovative approach aims to provide real-time measurements to ensure the catheter is trimmed to the appropriate length, potentially improving clinical outcomes. The study focuses on non-emergent procedures in an interventional radiology setting.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 scheduled for a non-emergent PICC placement.

Not a fit: Patients requiring emergent PICC placements or those under 18 years old may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to safer and more efficient PICC placements, reducing complications and improving patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of augmented reality in medical procedures is gaining traction, this specific application for PICC placement is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
