What this trial studies

This study examines how an augmented reality location-based game can influence physical activity and psychological factors in middle-aged and older adults who lead sedentary lifestyles. Participants aged 40 and above will be recruited and assigned to either an experimental group, which will engage in the game with specific step goals, or a control group that will continue their usual routines. The intervention aims to encourage increased physical activity through daily step count reporting and goal achievement motivation. Recruitment is set to begin in February 2025 at the Xinyi Health Service Center in Taipei City.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are community-dwelling individuals aged 40-59 or 60 and above who work more than 6 hours a day in sedentary jobs.

Not a fit: Patients with diagnosed mental illnesses, dementia, or those who regularly engage in physical activity may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance physical activity levels and overall quality of life for older adults.

How similar studies have performed: While augmented reality interventions are emerging, this specific approach targeting sedentary older adults is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
