What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effects of atorvastatin, a medication commonly used to lower cholesterol, on patients with ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. The study aims to explore atorvastatin's potential anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties that may benefit individuals suffering from this condition. Participants will receive an 80mg dose of atorvastatin, and the trial will assess its efficacy and safety in managing ulcerative colitis symptoms. The study is designed for adults aged 18 and older, excluding those with severe disease or certain other health conditions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with ulcerative colitis who meet the inclusion criteria.

Not a fit: Patients with severe ulcerative colitis or those on specific immunosuppressive therapies may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a new therapeutic option for managing ulcerative colitis symptoms and improving patient quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of atorvastatin in ulcerative colitis is a novel approach, other studies have explored statins for inflammatory conditions with varying degrees of success.
