What this trial studies
This study investigates whether the use of artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance the detection rate of colonic polyps during colonoscopy procedures. Endoscopists will utilize the GI Genius device from Medtronic, which employs machine learning to identify potential polyps in real-time. The study will assess the polyp detection rate (PDR) across three phases: before AI implementation, during AI use, and after AI use, while also examining the learning effects based on the endoscopists' experience levels. Data will be collected as part of Norway's national quality register for colonoscopy, Gastronet, to evaluate various outcomes including patient satisfaction and complications.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients scheduled for outpatient colonoscopies in Western Norway.
Not a fit: Patients who have undergone total colectomy or who refuse registration in the national quality register will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly increase the detection of colonic polyps, leading to earlier intervention and improved patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with AI-assisted detection in colonoscopy, indicating potential for success in this approach.
