What this trial studies

This study explores an innovative educational approach that combines visual and auditory elements to assist geriatric patients in bowel preparation before colonoscopy. Participants will receive both written instructions and an animated video designed to simplify complex medical instructions, catering specifically to the needs of elderly individuals who may struggle with literacy or anxiety. The goal is to enhance patient compliance and improve the quality of bowel cleansing, ultimately leading to better outcomes in colonoscopy procedures. The Boston Bowel Preparation Scale will be used to assess the effectiveness of this intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 60 years or older who are preparing for their first colonoscopy and have no history of bowel disease or previous surgeries on the small intestine and colon.

Not a fit: Patients who have previously undergone a colonoscopy or have a history of bowel disease or surgeries may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve bowel preparation quality in elderly patients, leading to more effective colonoscopy procedures and better health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of animated videos for patient education is a novel approach in this specific context, similar educational interventions have shown promise in improving patient understanding and compliance in other medical settings.
