What this trial studies

This observational study aims to develop an AI-based system that tracks mandibular and shoulder movements in patients with oral cancer. By utilizing deep learning techniques, the study will compare AI-generated pose estimations with traditional gold standard measurements to evaluate accuracy. It will involve 20 healthy adults and 20 oral cancer patients, collecting data on maximal mouth opening and shoulder abduction through video recordings and physical measurements. The performance of the AI model will be assessed using various statistical indicators to determine its reliability and accuracy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include oral cancer patients aged 20 to 65 who exhibit trismus or other shoulder joint impairments following treatment.

Not a fit: Patients who have communication difficulties or any disorders affecting movement performance may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a non-invasive method for accurately assessing functional impairments in oral cancer patients, leading to better treatment planning and rehabilitation.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI for pose estimation is gaining traction, this specific application in oral cancer rehabilitation is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
