Using AI to improve treatment for head and neck cancer

Towards A Better Paradigm for Head and Neck Cancer Treatment Applying Artificial Intelligence: an International Cohort Study of Electronic Health Records. HNC-TACTIC.

Observational Savana Research · NCT05117775

This study is testing if using AI to analyze health records can help doctors find out which head and neck cancer patients are at risk of their cancer coming back and who might do better with immunotherapy.

What this trial studies

This international, multicenter observational study analyzes electronic health records (EHRs) to understand the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). By employing SAVANA's EHRead® technology, which utilizes Natural Language Processing and machine learning, the study aims to develop predictive models for identifying patients at high risk of recurrence and those who may benefit from immunotherapy. The study will focus on patients across all stages of HNSCC, providing insights into their real-world treatment outcomes and survival rates.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Not a fit: Patients with less than 6 months of follow-up or those who do not meet the inclusion criteria may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more personalized treatment strategies for patients with head and neck cancer, improving survival rates and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing similar data-driven approaches and predictive modeling have shown promise in improving patient outcomes, indicating potential success for this study.
