Using AI to improve endoscopic diagnosis of atrophic gastritis

Artificial Intelligence-assisted White Light Endoscopy to Identify the Kimura-Takemoto Classification of Atrophic Gastritis to Achieve Gastric Cancer Risk Assessment

Observational Shandong University · NCT05916014

What this trial studies

This study focuses on developing an artificial intelligence model to accurately identify the Kimura-Takemoto classification of atrophic gastritis during white light endoscopy. The aim is to reduce the high false negative rates associated with the diagnosis of chronic atrophic gastritis, which can lead to an increased risk of gastric neoplasia. By standardizing the diagnostic process, the study seeks to enhance the accuracy of risk assessments for gastric cancer. Patients aged 18-80 undergoing endoscopic examination will be included, while those with severe health issues or previous gastric surgeries will be excluded.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 18-80 who are scheduled for a white light endoscopy.

Not a fit: Patients with severe health conditions or those who have undergone previous gastric surgeries may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more accurate diagnoses and better risk assessments for patients at risk of gastric cancer.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI in endoscopic diagnostics is emerging, this specific application to the Kimura-Takemoto classification is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
