Using AI to improve diagnosis and management of colorectal polyps
Computer Aided Diagnosis (CADx) for Colorectal Polyps Resect-and-Discard Strategy: a Multi-centre Randomized Controlled Trial
This study is testing if an AI tool can help doctors tell different types of colorectal polyps apart during colonoscopy to make treatment easier and cut down on unnecessary lab tests.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates an AI-powered computer-aided diagnosis (CADx) system designed to differentiate between types of colorectal polyps during colonoscopy. By utilizing a deep neural network model trained on a large dataset of polyp images, the study aims to implement a resect-and-discard strategy for diminutive polyps, potentially reducing unnecessary histopathological examinations. Conducted across multiple university-affiliated endoscopy centers in China, Hong Kong, and Singapore, the trial follows rigorous guidelines to ensure compliance and reliability of results.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals undergoing elective colonoscopy with at least one colorectal polyp detected.
Not a fit: Patients with a personal history of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, prior colorectal surgery, or those on anticoagulant therapy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could streamline the management of colorectal polyps, reducing costs and improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using AI for polyp characterization, indicating a growing interest and potential in this area.
