Using AI to help patients with kidney disease choose peritoneal dialysis
Use of Behavioral Artificial Intelligence to Predict and Increase Uptake of Peritoneal Dialysis [AI-Dialysis]
This study is testing whether using AI to understand the personality traits of kidney disease patients can help doctors encourage them to choose peritoneal dialysis.

What this trial studies
This observational study utilizes Scaled Insights' Behavioral AI to enhance clinicians' ability to predict and understand the likelihood of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) opting for peritoneal dialysis. The study aims to identify personality traits of CKD patients and correlate these traits with their choices regarding dialysis. By clustering patients based on personality attributes, the AI model will generate personalized nudges to encourage appropriate treatment decisions. The findings will be used to develop a digital platform that supports healthcare professionals in guiding CKD patients towards peritoneal dialysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with stage 4-5 chronic kidney disease residing in the US or UK.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or those without chronic kidney disease will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve patient decision-making and increase the uptake of peritoneal dialysis among those with chronic kidney disease.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI in healthcare is growing, this specific approach to predicting dialysis choices through behavioral insights is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
