Using AI to convert ultrasound images into CT format

A Prospective Study for the Conversion of Ultrasound Images to CT Format Imaging Using Artificial Intelligence-based Learning

NA · HaEmek Medical Center, Israel · NCT04654546

This study is testing if using artificial intelligence to change ultrasound images into a format like CT scans can give a better view of the body while keeping the ultrasound safe and easy to use.

What this trial studies

This study aims to enhance ultrasound imaging by utilizing artificial intelligence to convert ultrasound images into a format similar to that of CT scans. The research focuses on addressing the limitations of ultrasound, such as its inability to penetrate air-filled structures and its dependence on operator skill. By leveraging AI, the study seeks to provide a broader anatomical view while maintaining the safety and accessibility of ultrasound imaging. Participants will undergo an abdominal ultrasound scan after having a CT exam within the past month to compare the imaging results.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals who have recently undergone an abdominal CT exam and are able to cooperate during the ultrasound procedure.

Not a fit: Patients who have experienced significant changes in their medical condition or are pregnant may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide safer and more accessible imaging options for patients while improving diagnostic accuracy.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI in imaging is a growing field, this specific approach of converting ultrasound to CT format is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
