Using advanced MRI to differentiate between cancerous and non-cancerous salivary gland tumors
Physiologic MR Imaging in Distinguishing Benign From Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
NA · Abramson Cancer Center at Penn Medicine · NCT04452162

What this trial studies
This study aims to utilize advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques to distinguish between benign and malignant salivary gland tumors. A total of 30 treatment-naïve patients with suspected salivary gland tumors will undergo a comprehensive MRI protocol that includes both anatomical imaging and dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging. The study will analyze specific imaging parameters to improve treatment strategies and predict disease progression based on the tumor's characteristics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with a salivary gland lesion of at least 1cm3 who have not received prior treatment for their condition.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of other cancers, MRI contraindications, renal disease, prior radiation to the head and neck, or who are pregnant may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate diagnoses and tailored treatment plans for patients with salivary gland tumors.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using advanced MRI techniques is promising, it is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in similar studies.
