Using advanced imaging to diagnose early stages of COPD
Research of Endobronchial Optical Coherence Tomography in Pre-stage of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on the early diagnosis of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Pre-COPD) using Endobronchial Optical Coherence Tomography (EB-OCT). It involves recruiting patients with varying stages of COPD, Pre-COPD, and healthy individuals to analyze lung function and structure. The study measures the inner luminal area and airway wall area of bronchi using EB-OCT to assess its diagnostic value in identifying Pre-COPD. By comparing these measurements across different groups, the research aims to enhance understanding and management of early COPD.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include non-smoking individuals with normal lung function and no other pulmonary diseases.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications for bronchoscopy or those currently participating in other clinical studies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early diagnosis and management strategies for patients at risk of developing COPD.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research has indicated the potential of Optical Coherence Tomography in diagnosing COPD, suggesting this approach may yield valuable insights.
