What this trial studies
This study investigates the efficacy of a virtual reality driving simulator designed specifically for institutionalized patients with advanced dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease. The simulator features a serious game with varying levels of difficulty that includes realistic driving scenarios to engage cognitive functions. Participants will navigate through a virtual environment with traffic elements and audio cues to enhance their cognitive training. The aim is to assess whether this innovative approach can improve cognitive abilities and overall well-being in patients with severe dementia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are institutionalized patients with advanced stage 3 and 4 dementia who are mobile and able to see.
Not a fit: Patients with significant mobility issues or severe visual impairments will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance cognitive function and quality of life for patients with advanced dementia.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of virtual reality in cognitive training is a growing field, this specific application for advanced dementia patients is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
