What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a stoma self-care app accessed through LINE, a popular communication platform in China, to enhance self-care abilities and quality of life for patients with enterostomy. It integrates technology acceptance and task technology adaptation models to assess how these factors influence patients' willingness to use the app and their self-care behaviors. The intervention aims to address the challenges faced by enterostomy patients, such as complications from inadequate self-care and the psychological impacts of lifestyle changes post-surgery. By providing ongoing support through the app, the study seeks to improve patients' overall well-being and reduce healthcare costs associated with complications.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer or intestinal obstruction who have undergone colostomy and can communicate in Mandarin or Minnan dialect.

Not a fit: Patients with cognitive, visual, or hearing impairments, or those requiring further surgery due to complications, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance the self-care abilities and quality of life for enterostomy patients.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using mobile apps for patient self-care is gaining traction, this specific application for enterostomy patients is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
