Using a specific position during radiotherapy for left breast cancer patients
A Prospective Study on the Application of Lateral Decubitus Position in Patients With Left Breast Cancer Undergoing Adjuvant Radiotherapy
This study is testing if a specific way of lying down during radiotherapy can help women with left breast cancer get better treatment while protecting their other organs.

What this trial studies
This clinical study evaluates the effectiveness of the lateral decubitus position in patients with left breast cancer undergoing adjuvant radiotherapy. It is a randomized, non-blind, single-center trial that recruits female patients aged 18-70 with newly diagnosed left-sided breast cancer. Participants will be assigned to either a deep inspiration breath-hold (DIBH) or free breathing (FB) group, with further division based on their ability to tolerate the DIBH technique. The study aims to compare treatment plans developed for patients in different positions to determine the best approach for minimizing radiation exposure to surrounding organs.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are female patients aged 18-70 with newly diagnosed left-sided breast cancer who are undergoing surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy.
Not a fit: Patients with bilateral breast cancer or those who have had prior radiotherapy to the chest may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved radiotherapy techniques that better protect the heart during treatment for left breast cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific application of the lateral decubitus position in this context is relatively novel.
