What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to compare the effectiveness of bowel preparation methods for elective colonoscopy by utilizing a smartphone application for enhanced patient education versus standard verbal instructions. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the app group, which receives guidance through video media, or the control group, which receives traditional pamphlets and verbal instructions. Both groups will follow the same purgative regimen and dietary restrictions, and the quality of bowel preparation will be assessed using the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale by blinded endoscopists. The study is conducted at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 who require a colonoscopy and can use the Line application on their mobile phones.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of colonic resection, inflammatory bowel disease, or those classified as ASA level 3 or higher may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved bowel preparation quality, resulting in better colonoscopy outcomes for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of smartphone applications for patient education is gaining traction, this specific approach to bowel preparation is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
