What this trial studies

This project aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a smartphone application designed to enhance asthma self-management among adolescents. Participants aged 12 to 18 with persistent asthma will be randomly assigned to either standard care or the app in addition to standard care. The study will assess recruitment and retention rates, technical barriers, and the app's perceived usefulness and ease of use. Adherence to the app will be monitored over six months to determine how frequently it is used and the extent of self-management data entered.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents aged 12 to 18 with a verified diagnosis of persistent asthma who can use a smartphone.

Not a fit: Patients with other chronic lung diseases or significant developmental disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly improve asthma management and quality of life for adolescents.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using mobile applications for chronic disease management, indicating potential success for this approach.
