What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of a plant-dominant low protein diet, known as the PLADO diet, in reducing metabolic acidosis, a significant risk factor for the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Participants will receive nutrition education on either the PLADO diet or the standard CKD diet through monthly sessions over six months, followed by checkups. The study aims to compare the two diets in terms of their impact on metabolic acidosis, as well as assess the safety, viability, and economic feasibility of the PLADO diet.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and above with stages 3-5 CKD and controlled glycemic and blood pressure parameters.
Not a fit: Patients with severe comorbid conditions or those experiencing acute health issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a dietary intervention that significantly slows the progression of chronic kidney disease in patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with dietary interventions in CKD management, suggesting potential success for this approach.
