Using a new membrane to improve tissue regeneration in periodontal patients
Peking University School of Stomatology

What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the efficacy of a novel extracellular matrix scaffold derived from small intestinal submucosa (SIS) membrane in guided tissue regeneration for patients with advanced periodontitis. The study compares the SIS membrane to traditional absorbable collagen membranes, focusing on its ability to promote vascular ingrowth and tissue repair. Participants will undergo flap surgery combined with bone grafting and guided tissue regeneration techniques. The trial aims to assess the effectiveness of SIS in enhancing periodontal tissue regeneration compared to standard methods.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with stage III to IV periodontitis, grade C, who have significant intrabony defects.
Not a fit: Patients who smoke, are pregnant, or have other systemic diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved healing and regeneration of periodontal tissues in patients with severe gum disease.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with similar extracellular matrix approaches, suggesting potential for success in this trial.
