Using a mobile health platform to educate youth with diabetes
Developing a Diabetes Self-management mHealth Simulation Platform for Youth

What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to assess the feasibility of a mobile health simulation platform designed for youth with type 1 diabetes. Over a 12-week period, 20 participants aged 10-18 will engage with diabetes education scenarios tailored to their individual needs based on their diabetes device data. Participants will have weekly video chats with research staff to discuss their experiences and any challenges faced while using the platform. The study will evaluate recruitment, engagement, and glycemic control through various measures, including A1C levels and platform usage data.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are youth aged 10-18 with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes for over a year who currently use an insulin pump or hybrid closed-loop therapy.
Not a fit: Patients with significant learning disabilities or those unable to read and write in English may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this platform could enhance diabetes self-management education and improve glycemic control among youth with type 1 diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: While mobile health interventions for diabetes education are emerging, this specific simulation approach is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
