What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the 'Patients In My Pocket in my Hospital' (PIMPmyHospital) mobile app in reducing the time it takes for pediatric emergency department staff to access laboratory results. Conducted in a tertiary pediatric emergency department in Switzerland, the study compares the time taken to acknowledge lab results before and after the app's implementation. The primary outcome is the mean elapsed time in minutes between lab result delivery and acknowledgment by clinicians. The study involves a pre-post design with data collected over an 18-month period.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study include postgraduate residents in pediatrics, pediatric emergency medicine fellows, and registered nurses working in the pediatric emergency department.

Not a fit: Patients who are not involved in the pediatric emergency department staff or those outside the age range of 18 years will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly reduce the turnaround time for accessing critical lab results, improving patient care in emergency situations.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in using mobile applications to enhance clinical efficiency, suggesting that this approach may yield positive results.
