What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a mobile application called ESTOI in enhancing disease control, treatment adherence, and quality of life for patients diagnosed with asthma. Conducted over 52 weeks at Bellvitge University Hospital in Barcelona, the trial will involve 108 participants who will be randomly assigned to either a control group receiving standard care or an intervention group using the ESTOI app alongside standard care. Key assessments will include the Asthma Control Test and various measures of adherence and exacerbation rates.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a diagnosis of asthma who have not previously received asthma education.
Not a fit: Patients without access to a mobile device or those lacking the necessary technological skills may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve asthma management and quality of life for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with telemedicine approaches in chronic disease management, suggesting potential success for this novel application.
