Using a 3-D cell culture model to study circulating tumor cells in cancer patients
Establishment and Application of 3-Dimensional (3-D) Cell Culture Model of Clinical Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs)
This study is testing a new way to collect and grow cancer cells from the blood of patients with transitional cell carcinoma to see if it can help improve cancer research and treatment.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to validate the clinical feasibility of a 3-D cell culture model for isolating and purifying circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from blood samples of patients with transitional cell carcinoma and healthy individuals. The approach focuses on expanding the number of viable CTCs while eliminating leukocytes, thereby enhancing the purity of the samples. This method could facilitate further research into cancer metastasis, gene mutations, and personalized chemotherapy drug testing. By utilizing advanced cell culture techniques, the study seeks to overcome limitations of existing CTC isolation methods.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 20 years old with transitional cell carcinoma or healthy individuals without cancer.
Not a fit: Patients who refuse blood collection or have conditions that prevent participation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved methods for isolating viable CTCs, enhancing personalized cancer treatment options.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been various approaches to CTC isolation, this specific 3-D cell culture technique is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
