What this trial studies
This project aims to adapt and test a mobile health application designed for parents of children undergoing bone marrow transplants. The app, named BMT4me, will be evaluated for its usability and acceptability among Spanish-speaking caregivers of children in the acute phase post-allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant. The study will involve user testing at two primary sites: Nationwide Children's Hospital and Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The goal is to ensure that the app meets the needs of caregivers during a critical time in their child's treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Spanish-speaking primary caregivers of children aged 0-17 who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplant and are expected to be discharged before day 100 post-transplant.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those with pre-existing neurodevelopmental disorders or disabilities, as well as caregivers who do not speak Spanish or lack access to a smartphone.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could provide essential support and resources to caregivers, improving their ability to manage their child's post-transplant care.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, similar studies utilizing mobile health applications for caregiver support in pediatric settings have shown promise.
