What this trial studies

The project will produce a forward-backward translation of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire with expert review to ensure semantic and cultural equivalence. Using a cross-sectional design, adults aged 18–45 with upper limb functional limitations will complete both Urdu and English versions. Reliability will be measured by internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) and test–retest stability (ICC), and validity will be examined using content validity indexing (CVI) and correlations with the original instrument. Data will be analyzed using standard psychometric procedures in SPSS to determine whether the Urdu version is reliable and valid.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults 18–45 years old with a diagnosed upper limb disability who can read, speak, and understand Urdu and have had symptoms for at least one week are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with congenital deformities, significant cognitive or psychiatric impairment that prevents questionnaire completion, non-Urdu speakers, or those who refuse consent are unlikely to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, clinicians will have a reliable Urdu tool to measure arm, shoulder, and hand disability, improving communication, assessment, and treatment planning for Urdu-speaking patients.

How similar studies have performed: Translations and validations of the DASH into many other languages have been successfully completed using similar forward-backward translation and psychometric testing methods.
