Upper body exercise training using a robotic system for patients with lower limb conditions
Self-Practicing Upper Body Exercises with a Robotic Trainer System in the Physical Therapy Department: a Feasibility Study
NA · Loewenstein Hospital · NCT06690658

What this trial studies
This study examines the feasibility of using a robotic trainer system to assist older adults with lower limb orthopedic conditions in performing upper body exercises during inpatient rehabilitation. Participants will engage in self-practice sessions three times a week for three weeks, guided by the robotic system which provides demonstrations and feedback. The study aims to assess user experience and the acceptability of this robotic approach to enhance physical activity levels among patients who may struggle with traditional rehabilitation methods.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are in a stable clinical state and can independently sit without back support.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to active upper extremity movements or severe pain that limits their ability to exercise may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve physical activity levels and rehabilitation outcomes for patients with lower limb orthopedic conditions.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using robotic systems for rehabilitation, indicating potential success for this novel approach.
