Understanding why thrombolysis fails in heart attack patients
Predictors of Failed Thrombolysis in Acute ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction
This study is trying to find out why some heart attack patients don't respond to a specific clot-busting treatment so that doctors can improve how they treat these patients in the future.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify the reasons behind the failure of thrombolytic treatment with tissue-plasminogen activator (t-PA) in patients experiencing acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). It will involve 200 STEMI patients who receive prehospital thrombolysis at Oslo University Hospital Ullevål. Blood samples will be collected upon hospital arrival to analyze biomarkers related to coagulation, fibrinolysis, and inflammation. The study will compare these biomarker levels between patients who experience successful and failed thrombolysis to improve risk stratification and treatment outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are STEMI patients over 18 years old who have received prehospital thrombolysis.
Not a fit: Patients who do not receive prehospital thrombolysis or are under 18 years old may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better prediction of thrombolysis success, potentially improving treatment strategies for STEMI patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on thrombolysis, this specific approach focusing on biomarkers in the context of STEMI is relatively novel.
