Understanding why patients return to emergency care after initial treatment
Evaluation of the Reasons for Recourse and Diagnoses Associated With Early Recourse to an Emergency Structure After Initial Treatment Followed by a Return Home
University Hospital, Strasbourg, France · NCT06194253

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the reasons behind early recourse to emergency care after initial treatment in adults. It focuses on patients who revisit the emergency department within a week of their first visit for the same issue. By analyzing data from the University Hospital in Strasbourg, the study seeks to identify risk factors associated with these early readmissions, which could inform targeted prevention strategies. The findings may help improve outpatient care and reduce unnecessary emergency visits.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have returned to the emergency department within seven days for the same reason after initial treatment.
Not a fit: Patients who have not returned to the emergency department or those who oppose the use of their data for research will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better management of emergency care resources and improved patient outcomes through targeted interventions.
How similar studies have performed: While studies on emergency department revisits exist, this specific focus on the general adult population in France is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
