Understanding tumor variations in peritoneal cancers

PITCHER (Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Heterogeneity)

Observational Hospices Civils de Lyon · NCT04714957

What this trial studies

This observational study investigates how epigenetic changes affect gene expression in different subclones of peritoneal carcinomatosis, particularly in colorectal and ovarian cancers. It aims to collect data and specimens from patients who have undergone surgery for this condition, focusing on the variations in gene expression and how these changes relate to the cancer's adaptation to its environment. The study involves a collaboration of 10 research teams from Lyon, Grenoble, and Marseille, creating a comprehensive database of genetic and epigenetic information.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with histologically or radiologically confirmed peritoneal carcinomatosis of colorectal or ovarian origin.

Not a fit: Patients who do not have peritoneal carcinomatosis or those with other unrelated cancers may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding of cancer behavior and potentially inform more effective treatment strategies for patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, similar studies investigating tumor heterogeneity and epigenetic factors have shown promise in understanding cancer dynamics.
