Understanding the link between lung function and foot pressure in COPD patients

Association Between Cardiopulmonary Function, Mobility, Walking Ability, and Plantar Pressure Changes in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Case-Control Study

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore how cardiopulmonary function relates to plantar pressure in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). By enrolling 60 participants, the study will assess various physical capabilities and limitations through tests such as the 6-minute walk test and timed up and go test. The goal is to identify indicators that can help tailor exercise training for patients based on their disease progression and severity. The research will be conducted at Fu-Jen Catholic University Hospital, focusing on the correlation between lower limb strength and cardiopulmonary function.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 45 to 65 with chronic respiratory diseases who require pulmonary rehabilitation.

Not a fit: Patients with severe heart failure, neuromuscular diseases, or those currently using oxygen therapy or ventilators may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights to optimize exercise training for COPD patients, improving their mobility and overall quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on this specific approach, studies focusing on exercise training in COPD patients have shown positive outcomes.
