Understanding the genetics of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy

Dissecting the Genetic Architecture of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP)

Not applicable Interventional Istituto Clinico Humanitas · NCT06325878

This study is trying to see how certain genes might affect people with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) and their treatment, by comparing genetic information from CIDP patients to healthy individuals.

What this trial studies

This study aims to investigate the genetic factors associated with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) by conducting a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on a large cohort of CIDP patients and healthy controls. Researchers will analyze over 700,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from approximately 1,000 CIDP patients and compare these with data from 3,500 healthy controls. The study will explore how specific genetic variants may influence the clinical presentation, severity, and treatment responses of CIDP, including associations with other autoimmune conditions. The findings could enhance understanding of CIDP's genetic underpinnings and improve patient management.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with a documented diagnosis of CIDP according to established criteria.

Not a fit: Patients with alternative diagnoses for their neuropathy or without available nerve conduction studies will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better-targeted therapies and personalized treatment strategies for patients with CIDP.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies using GWAS approaches have shown promise in identifying genetic factors in other autoimmune diseases, suggesting potential for success in this novel investigation of CIDP.
