What this trial studies

This study aims to investigate the genetic mutations associated with melanocytic nevi, commonly known as moles. Researchers will collect DNA from skin biopsy specimens of nevi and corresponding blood samples to perform whole genome, whole exome, or targeted sequencing. The goal is to identify somatic mutations in the nevi by comparing them to normal tissue DNA. This observational approach will help clarify the genetic basis of these benign skin lesions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have melanocytic nevi.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those without melanocytic nevi will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to better understanding and management of melanocytic nevi, potentially improving patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on genetic analysis of nevi, similar genetic studies have shown promise in understanding other skin conditions, indicating potential for success.
